The day was perfect, blue sky, good snow, no people. Skiing was
brilliant until 3pm – I took a fall.
I double somersaulted off a path, hit my back on a boulder, fell another
fifteen feet or so and came to a rapid stop.
I attempted to move but was unable. My father skied down to get help
whilst my best friend kept me warm and conscious.
The mountain rescue found me after 45 minutes and skied me down in a
sledge to a waiting ambulance which sped me off to hospital. No-one had
said anything to me about what had happened, but from what I gathered
they thought I had broken my back. After many extensive tests, x-rays,
ultrasounds etc, they told me nothing was broken. It turned out I had
haematoma (severe blood clotting) in my lower back, a sprained lower
back, sprained groin muscles, a dislocated pelvis, a few twisted
vertebrae and concussion.
They said I would be inactive for about 6 months which greatly depressed
me as I am an extremely active person; rugby being my main passion. I
knew I had county trials coming up, a rugby tour with my school and many
important club and school fixtures.
On returning to England, we called Mark Mathews and booked an
appointment. I had the utmost faith that Mark would perform miracles
just as he had done before. To my great surprise, after just one
session, I could walk again and after going twice a week for a few
weeks, I am back training and can play rugby again as soon as I am
strong enough.
This is the quickest recovery I could have hoped for and all thanks to
Mark, I can continue my normal life.
